The apartment is located in a historic building in the heart of Moscow, in Kitay-Gorod. A former communal apartment has been transformed into a modern and stylish living space for a young couple. Architects Philipp Tangalychev and designer Daria Kasatskaya from Studioplan created an interior where the past harmoniously coexists with the present, with natural materials taking center stage.

Solid wide planks of hand-planed continental oak in anthracite color are laid throughout the apartment. The flooring is not just the foundation of the interior but also its visual centerpiece, emphasizing the precision of lines and the depth of the space. The oak texture adds character to the room, while the deep anthracite shade brings a sense of nobility and understated elegance.

The bathroom features moisture-resistant solid thermo-ash parquet, finished with hot wax. This choice is not only practical but also aesthetically refines the space, ensuring that even the most functional areas radiate the natural warmth of wood. The shower cabin is also finished with Relax Aqua parquet, as this coating is fully resistant to water exposure.

The central accent of the apartment is a red cube, integrating kitchen appliances on the dining area side and a spacious wardrobe on the hallway side. The living room is designed with a bookshelf, which cleverly conceals a projector screen. In the study, a transformable desk with a built-in billiard table allows the space to easily adapt to different usage scenarios.
The window openings are adorned with wooden slopes and shutters, replacing traditional curtains. Sliding doors, 2.5 meters high, separate the bedrooms and the study while maintaining a sense of openness and light. The wide and long oak planks on the floors emphasize the spaciousness of the interior.
The built-in furniture and carpentry were custom-made in Moscow workshops based on the architects’ original sketches, ensuring a perfectly balanced and harmonious interior.
This project exemplifies how a historic space can be transformed into a modern and cozy home, where anthracite continental oak flooring and thermo-ash treated with hot wax set the tone for the entire interior, creating an atmosphere of comfort and understated luxury.
