Architect Tatiana Smirnova from the architectural group “Kvadro” transformed a Moscow apartment by merging two units into one spacious living area. The central element of the interior is an oval “island” with a scaly surface made of leather and glass panels, concealing utilities and serving as a spatial landmark. A coffered ceiling of varying depths not only hides technical systems but also visually organizes the space around the central volume. The design blends natural materials with reflective surfaces, evoking a sense of exoticism and enhancing the perception of space. The interior is anchored by two types of solid thermo-ash flooring. Large-format thermo-ash parquet was used in the common areas, while a special moisture-resistant thermo-ash parquet with a grooved Relax surface was chosen for the bathrooms.
